„KANBAN“ or „PAR“: same principle?
Orginally, PAR and KANBAN are not meaning the same Stock Management principles.
What does it mean for your choice of technology?
- PAR: Triggering of re-order process wenn the stock level reaches a defined minimum – the PAR-level
- KANBAN: replenishment-trigger, mostly the same quantity to be delivered that has just been consumed – e.g. by scanning the KANBAN-label
In industrial applications and companies, often as VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) users tend to title any (semi- or full-)automatic re-order-process as KANBAN. Typically, then also refering to the storage containers or material flow totes alike as KANBAN-bins.
In the past, your choice of technology tied you to KANBAN or PAR-level procedures.
TeDaLoS SMART INVENTORY MONITORING PLATFORM eliminates the limitation and empowers you to use technology flexibly as you go. Choose for each stock position individually if it should follow PAR or KANBAN rules.
- Bin / Tag scanning tech (e.g. barcode, matrixcode or RFID) or Dashbutton (caller button) gadgets at the storage location
- can be registered as KANBAN-signal (for replenishment of predefined or consumed quantity)
- OR
- as booking of a quantity change (reduction) with triggering of re-stock only if the total stock on hand reaches PAR-level (often called minimum level or safety stock)
- Sensor devices at the storage position, that are measuring the fill level in an interval or continuously (e.g. fill height sensor or weight scales)
- and alert upon reaching the re-order-point – advanced with dynamic threshold that predicts consumption patterns
- OR
- use to detect KANBAN top-up demand
Stay flexible, use today’s and future smart technologies to reduce process risks, manual effort and costs of stock. Free valuable worker time for your core activities.
- Which tech is “TeDaLoS-ready”, which smart sensors are integrated into TeDaLoS, what automation systems are connected to TeDaLoS?
- Which stock management or re-order workflows – also across companies and supply chain – are included in the SMART INVENTORY MONITORING PLATFORM?
- What other services – like auto-replenishment or customer stock management – can TeDaLoS be used for?
Some hints to the picture, left to right:
- Red containers: 2-bin KANBAN, the empty bin being scanned (barcode or the radio identification tag RFID at the side of the bin) to trigger re-order of a full bin or book consumption.
- Blue tote: wireless ePaper display with caller button. Article, stock location and order data are synchronized onto the display automatically. The buttonpress converts to online workflows of predefined stock management procedures.
- Green box: mounted to a wireless smart scale. The weight readings are translated online to article-stock level or top-up demand (then displaying cable length).
- red grab stock bin: wired smart scale for highly accurate constant piece counting inventory or to trigger a KANBAN run.
